What a stunning island; mountains, waterfalls, beaches, people and rice fields.
Our friend Freda joined us in Bali and had the opportunity to share the experiences and witness life aboard the ship.
We spent 3+ days on the island, first in Benoa in the south, where the airport and most of the tourists go. From there we moved to Celukan Bawang on the north side and saw a much quieter side of the island with small villages, beautiful scenery and wonderful, friendly people. We arranged to use the same local and knowledgeable guide for the entire time and learned about the history and culture of Bali and how it contrasts with much of the rest of Indonesia. We were fortunate to see many diverse parts of the island, visiting a monkey sanctuary, exploring temples, observing volcanoes, traversing rice fields, and admiring beautiful waterfalls, despite the climbs down and back up (partially eased by a ride on the back of a motorcycle). Oh, and did we mention the most delicious fresh fruits that we purchased right on the side of the roads?
Bali, what a feast for the eyes (along with the nose and the mouth)!
Stay tuned for the next blog…Halloween on a ship!
